Clubs and societies

Marshall Road teaching staff run a number of ‘clubs’ for students during weekly lunch breaks.  These clubs are fluid; students do not have to attend every week if they do not wish to and some clubs may run all year while others only run for a term.

The purpose of these clubs is to provide students with some structured lunchtime activities which they may choose to join while also extending students’ interests and abilities in some areas.

Sustainability Rangers (formerly Garden club)

Permaculture and Garden club
Any student may join and become a Sustainability Ranger.  Sustainability Rangers will be rostered on to attend at least one lunchbreak duty every week.  Duties will include management of recycling, animal pen cleaning, gardening, plant propagation, composting, worm farming and mulching.  These students will also be able to take on a class role managing and promoting the class recycling program each day.  Year 6 Sustainability Leaders, once elected, will assist in the leadership of this group.   Mrs Kennedy Smith and Mr Jones (groundsman) will supervise students, and parents may also assist as well if interested and available from 1:20 to 1:50pm.  A weekly commitment is required of students and a term's weekly service will be acknowledged on assembly through a certificate scheme.  To participate each student must bring their own pair of gardening gloves.

Computer club
(not currently operating)

Computer club runs twice a week during second break.  Students may attend the computer lab and do research, complete assignments or homework or play educational games.  Downloading of non-educational games, music etc is not allowed.

Sewing group
(not currently operating)

A sewing group operates one lunch break a week and is supported by volunteer adults who teach students to sew and knit.

Science club

A science club runs before school for a set number of weeks  each year.  Children are involved in scientific investigations and conduct experiments.

Swimming club

Marshall Road Marlins swimming club operates Tuesday night every week from 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm in terms 1 and 4.  Families are welcome to attend.
