Teaching and Learning

Our school-wide pedagogical approach is based on the Explicit Teaching model and is explained in our pedagogical framework.  We aim to develop students’ higher-order thinking skills in all learning areas.  We encourage children to communicate and reflect on all areas of learning.  Data is gathered on a regular basis and used to differentiate the curriculum to meet students’ learning needs.

The specialist areas of Health and Physical Education, Music, Languages Other Than English (Japanese) and Visual Art are taught by specialist teachers.

Each year level aims to have all children meet the Australian Curriculum achievement standards by the end of the school year. These can be found on the Australian Curriculum website.

Achievements for specific year levels are as follows and can be found on the link above:

  • Prep (Foundation year) achievement standards
  • Year 1 achievement standards
  • Year 2 achievement standards
  • Year 3 achievement standards
  • Year 4 achievement standards
  • Year 5 achievement standards
  • Year 6 achievement standards

Every term, a culminating curriculum newsletter is written by the Curriculum Coordinator, Shaida Rjoc.  This newsletter promotes the learning that has occurred throughout the term and includes photos and provides  samples of student work.
